SYNOPSIS
High school senior Jeremy Avery’s sole focus is on winning the Texas State High School Golf Championship and the coveted college scholarship that goes to the winner. After a stellar freshman year, Jeremy’s game has suffered due to commitments related to his mother’s cancer which include caring for his younger autistic brother, Ethan. With this scholarship being his only viable ticket to playing golf in college, Jeremy must find a way to push through the many challenges in his life and find a way to embrace Ethan rather than think of him as a burden.
By Jeremy’s side are his two best friends - the ever-optimistic Tommy and the energetic, budding documentarian, Carly. Jeremy, already overwhelmed by the journey before him, is pushed to his limits when his mother announces she is returning to work, and that he will again need to care for Ethan.
Tommy and Carly step up their support, making it their mission to help Jeremy push past his doubts and insecurities regarding his game and Ethan. But Jeremy’s frustrations only grow in having to bring Ethan to practices and matches where he is a disruption to both his brother and other golfers.
Tommy, however, notices that Ethan brings something extraordinary to the table, an uncanny ability to read the elements on a golf course. This "gift" could help Jeremy, but he doesn’t want to trust or believe in Ethan’s abilities, discounting what could be his most effective weapon and ally.
In dealing with his increasing frustrations and lagging game, Jeremy pushes away his friends and family until tragedy strikes, testing Jeremy’s faith in himself, those closest to him, and his future.
Facing the pressure of the State tournament, along with the constant taunting of his main rival Bruce, who will do anything to win, Jeremy must realize his path to success means embracing his younger brother and the help of those who love him. With a scholarship and his newfound relationship with Ethan on the line, Jeremy, on the brink of his greatest success, is faced with a life-altering decision: the realization of his dreams or standing by his brother. Will Jeremy come to learn that life, both on and off the course, is all about “The Short Game”?
